IBAMA and the Federal Police of Brazil seized 1,818 cubic meters of lumber in the yards of a major manufacturer and exporter of Brazilian hardwood flooring. The company has since been embargoed by IBAMA. It is alleged that the merchandise had irregular or inadequate proof of origin. The company disputes these allegations and maintains that it is certified by several third-party standards including FSC, a European Union Certification, and a Legal Wood Certificate from the Environmental Ministry of São Paulo. The seizure was the result of Operation Patio, which was launched on May 24 after two years of investigation. The incident is still under investigation.
